Day 4 – Touring Mission and off to Sioux Falls

Today we got up, packed up, and I took Carrie around Valentine…which didn’t take very long because Valentine is a rather small town.  Then we headed north to Mission, SD.  On the way, we stopped at the Rosebud Casino on the state line.  The casino was built after I moved away from Mission, and I had a curiosity to take a look inside, so we did.  Then we headed to Mission.  I showed Carrie where I used to live and the schools where I used to teach.  For what it’s worth, Mission is the hometown of Bob Barker (of The Price Is Right).   I was surprised to see that they have put gates around the schools and have also installed metal detectors in the schools as well.

Once we were done touring Mission, we made our way to Sioux Falls, SD.  On our way, we saw land, land, and more land, as well as some ranches.  On our way, we stopped at Al’s Oasis by Chamberlain, SD right by the Missouri River.  Al’s is famous for their Buffalo burgers.  Yum!

We left Chamberlain and headed back to Mitchell, SD to visit the World’s Only Corn Palace.  Our tour took 10 minutes.  Then we headed to Sioux Falls to our hotel.

After settling in, we made our way to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the UFC 137 Pay-Per-View.  We had about a 45 minute wait to get a table, but we were ok with that.  About a half an hour into our wait, Carrie suggested that I ask to see if they were showing the UFC PPV, because she didn’t see any signs that they were going to show it.  I asked, and they said that they were not going to show it.  So we headed for the OTHER Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the UFC PPV.  It took a while to get to it, because there was a lot of road construction going on.  Once we would get close, we kept seeing the “Road Closed” signs (see definition of “Closed For The Season” for more information on this concept) about a block or two away.  Finally, Carrie saw someone driving down a frontage road that was open to the restaurant, so we followed that route and got our table.  Thank you for the GPS lady, Google Maps!

After watching the PPV, we headed back to our hotel room.
